OTAKI BULB SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the ptaki Bulb Society took place last night, when thero was a good attendance. Mr H. Witchell occupied the chair. y The balance-sheet showed a debit
balance of £1 5s 4d, while the report, as follows, was considered satisfactory:—
"Your committee in presenting the second annual report congratulate the members on the success that has resulted from their efforts during the pa*t year, which have tended to increase tho interest taken by growers
iin producing a higher standard of blooms, the judge, Mr Buckingham, remarking that the amateur exhibits were ".clean, well grown and a credit to the exhibitors," while in the open class those of Messrs T. Waugh, H. Poole, and F. Wesfbury were equal to anything he had seen this' season. The contest between Messrs T. Waugh and H. Poole for the Citizens' Trophy was very keen, Mr Waugh proving the victor by one point only, and being his second win in succession the trophy becomes his property. Mr Poole secured a second win for Mr H. Witchell's trophy. Mr Westbury exhibited some very fine blooms and secured a number of prizes. In the amateur class Mr J. Summers scored a win for Mr H. Witchell's trophy presented in that class, and some excellent exhibits wore also staged by Messrs Broadway, Summers and Witchcll.
"To those ladies and gentlemen who so kindly gave special prizes and donations to the funds tho best thanks-of the society are tendered for their generous assistance. To the ladies and
their assistants who so ably conducted the tea-rooms and sweets stall wo also tender our sincere thanks for services so willingly rendered. "Mr T. Waugh having won the Citizens' Trophy, it will be necessary to provide another. Your committee have tho matter in hand, and contributions aro solicited to provide a trophy worthy of the high standard of exhibits at previous shows. "Your committee regret that tho Society has, by the death of Dr. W. H. Huthwaite, lost one of its most valued and generous patrons, a gentleman who had endeared himself to all classes of the community, and whose memory will bo cherished by members for years to come.
"The schedule revision committee have completed their labours, the revised odition being presented for approval this evening, Application for affiliation with tho Hoyal Horticultural Society of England has been made, and standard rules for judging should be available for the next show." The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr J. P. Brandon; vice-pre-sidents, Mrs Swabcy and Mr H. Witchell; committee, Mcsdames Hodgson, L. KilmistcT, Fox. Huthwaite, Tow<. Misses Eilsby, Edmed, Crellin, Tews, and Bradcy, Messrs Broadway, email, Summers, Knight, Penn, Wells, O, Wilson, Statter, and D. Noble; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr s. Norgrove; hon. auditor, Mr P. Freeman. It was decided that the position of secretary and treasurer be honorary. The secretary was instructed to write to Major Addingtou. thank him for the great interest he hnd displayed in the Socioty, and to wish him a pleasant trip to England. Tho schedules were revised and ordered to be printed, and the revision committee—Mrs Swabcy, Messrs Small and Witchcll—thanked for their services. It was decided that the date of the next show be held in abeyance.
