It will bo Of interest to the people of the Manawatu district to learn that at n meeting of the owners of the Makerua swamp it was decided TO put roads right through the property. A surveyor has been instructed to map nut the route. When tho scheme is completed, people will be able to travel from Palmerston North to Rangitaue, and from there right through the swamp to Shannon. There will aLo be a connection from the Rangitaue bridge to Shannon. This will strike the former road about tho middle Of the .swamp. Tho scheme will provide n level road from Palmerston to Shannon and will considerably shorten the journey. It is the intention of the owner* i,f the swamps in which the flax has been destroyed by the blight to cut up the land into areas suitable for dairy farms. •]
