MT. HECTOR TRACK.
COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the committee in connection with the above was held at tho Town Board's office on Wednesday. Present: Messrs W. Tompsitt (chairman), W. H. Field, M.P., Frink Penn, M. H. Ayre, A, R. Knex, aid H. Nicolson (hon. secretary). An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Mr G. M. Lothbridgc. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, while correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:
From Frank Penn, stating that he proposed to publish a booklet sotting forth the attractions and beauties of the track across tho ranges—Otaki to Greytown—together with “boosting” of Otaki as a seaside resort. The booklet suggested would be attractive, wellwritten, aud well-illustrated, and he asked that the committee assist towards its production. Members of tho committeo considered the idea an excellent one, and it was agreed that the matter be left in the hands of a sub-committec Messrs Lethbridge and Penn—to confer with delegates from tho Greytown Committee, the Tararua Tramping Club, and the Tourist Department. M. Maxton (secretary of tho Greytown Committee) wrote suggesting the appointment of delegates to discuss with delegates of other organisations interested, the best way of expending tho £SOO votod by Parliament for tho track.—Mossrs Penn and Lethbridge appointed. From Ernest J. C. Wiffen, secretary of tho Tararua (Wellington) Tramping Cllib, setting forth the objects of the club and asking support. He stated it was the desire of the club to work in co-operation with the Otaki and Greytown committees, to furnish tho huts with necessary culinary articles, and assist otherwise for the promotion of the track.—Decided that tho club be accorded all possible support. From F. W. Vosscler, suggesting that committees interested should provide a wire suspension bridge across the Tauhcrenikau river, so that parties would not be held up, He also reported that during a recent trip he found the huts and track in good order.—Matter of suspension bridge referred to delegates. Mr Knox reported that he and others had cleared the logs from the clearing (known as Judd’s) and now had a good track .from “The Forks” to the waterhole—in fact, it was so good that a horse could be ridden to tho bush, where a most convenient hut had been built. Two or three weeks’ more work would make a fine track to Table Top. It was agreed that a hut was needed at Tiro Tiro point (just below Table Top), but it was decided to leave tho matter to the delegates.
