SPORTS AT PARAPARAUMU
A sports gathering will be held on New Year’s Day at Paraparaumu. and as this promises to be the only attraction for holiday-makers on this coast on that day there should be a large attendance. Already much enthusiasm is being displayed, and a strong committee, with Messrs A. T. White and D. Howell as secretaries, are working hard to make tho function a great success. The programme of events is a lengthy and varied one, while the prize money is tempting. The handicap events carry valuable trophies valued up to £3 10s, wEle for the points prize Mr A. W. Roberts has given a handsome cup, valued at no less than £3 9s. The trophy is a fine one, and is to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals. Messrs Dabscheck and Fisher have also given a gold medal for a local handicap, for performers between Waikanae anf Paekakanki. This is also a handsome trophy, and should cause' keen competition, There will also be a bandsmen's race, married women's and married men’s race, egg and spoon race, chain'stepping, weightguessing, greasy pig. et<;.
