MANAKAU.

Mrs Quayle, who has been on a short visit to Manakau renewing old acquaintances, left yesterday for her home, at Feeding. While here she was the guest of Mrs Bathgate and Mrs Bradshaw, One of the bravest men who attempted rescue at the hotel fire at Manakau was Rangi Ransfield. This young fellow entered the hotel at great personal risk, aroused a boarder, and because the latter made no appearance for a time, returned the second time, practically entering a death trap. Among the visitors to Manaxau yesterday was Mr Melville Andrews, well known locally,, and who was in the Flying Corps at Home for about four Mrs Andrew Jack (Dnnedin) aie at present .visiting here, being th& guests of Ms £-34 Mr; Robert Bevan. - Mrs Green, late of Te Horo and Wellington, has taken possession of Mr H. H. Bryant’s farm at South Manakau. Mrs" Everett (Wellington) and sister to Mrs Robert Be van, of Manakau, is at present visiting Wairarapa for health reasons.

At a meeting of the Manakau State School Committee last night Mr AV. Bevan was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr Miles. Endeavours are now to be made to organise a concert for school funds. A meeting of the Manakau branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last night, but chiefly routine business was transacted.
