TOURNAMENT AT LEVIN. The five-aside hockey tournament held at Levin on Monday (Labour Day) created considerable interest, especially as three Feilding teams had entered for the competition. Otaki supplied a similar number, while Levin entered four. With the ten teams competition was keen. The management committee —-Messrs Kerslake, Chrystall, Billens, Winchester, and Matheson, assisted by others—worked splendidly, and credit is duo to them for the manner in which they handled affairs. Messrs G. Noble, W. Broughton, A. Cavanagh, and H. Nicolson were the referees. Following arc the results of the .games: “A” Section: Feilding C v. Otaki A, ' v draw, no score; Excelsior B v. Y.M.C.A., 2 —o; Feilding C v. Otaki B, ‘ 1—0; Otaki B v. Y.M.C.A., 2—o; Otaki A v. Otaki B, I—2; Feilding C v. Excelsior B, 1—1; Otaki A v. Y.M.C.A., 1—0; Feilding C- v. Y.M.C.A., 3—o; . Otaki A v. Semi-final: Feilding v. Excelsior, o—2.0 —2. Final: Excelsior A v. Excelsior J B. 2—o. !
At the conclusion of the day Mr .D. j W. Matheson (Mayor- of Levin), in j handing over the handsome eup won , by Excelsior A, heartily congratulated '
them on their win, and at the same time made reference to the fine way in which Excelsior B had played. Ho thanked
all who had attended, and the referees V who had assisted. ChceTS were then ex- > changed, after which Miss Pink took a i photograph of the leading teams. 1 A pleasing feature of the contest was the fact that Otaki C was composed of boys and youths without much experience as far as hockey is concerned, but on each occasion they put up a splcudid fight. With the Feilding A. team they , were only beaten by a goal, while Feilding B also defeated them by one.
