The member for Otaki (Mr W. H. Field) has given notice in the House of Hepresentatives to ask the Minister of Bailways if the Department will promote the reduction of congestion m the City of Wellington by extending the suburban area on' the Manawatu lino from Plinvmerton to Paekakariki, there fceing at the latter favourite wateringplace an increasing number of residents ■who prefer to live at the seaside, and whose business takes thcra to the city daily, and Paekakariki being equipped .with'enginc-sheds and other conveniences which render it the natural terminus of all suburban trains on that lino of railway. Mr W. H. Field (Otaki) has asked the Prime Minister if the Government will without delay consider the question of throwing open portion of the Wainui Porcst Eeserve of 13,000 acres, near Paekakariki. for soldier settlement, there being a" number of returned men from that district who arc desirous of taking up and improving bush land.
