Further news of the Fiji earthquake received by mail states that the Island Of Rabi, owned by Lever's Plantations, Lta., suffered severely on the same night (October 3). The residents were awakened by booms like thunder, followed by a wild heaving of the earth. Houses swayed alarmingly and furniture turned somersaults. Crockery was "smashed to bits. The Indians were panic-stricken, and fearing a tidal wave wildly rushed tip the hill. ' Quite a large drier for preparing copra caught lire ana disappeared into smoking debris. ' On examination cracks were found feverywhere. One largo crack at the Inaian lines was spouting mud and ■yellow slime. A number of geysers along the beach were throwing up mua. A "large portion'of Mount Dawson, the highest peak in the island, has been thrown or blown off, ana ricks had been Spit or smashed. Many great masses as large as a house had ploughed down from the hills to the coast flats, leaving Sines of crushed trees and bushes.
