GREAT STRIKE SETTLED
AFTER FEANK DISCUSSION. HAPPY CONCLUSION TO BAIL WAY TURMOIL. Loudon, October 5. Official: The railway strike has been settled. A largo crowd at Downing Street* vociferously cheered the announcement of the settlement. They gave an ovation to . Messrs Champ, Bramley, and Thomas as they left. Mr Thomas shouted: “It’s all over, boys. Work will be resumed on Monday.” The terms of settlement provide that wages shall remain unaltered till the end of September, 1920, and that n» adult railwayman shall receive less than 51s per Week while the cost of livng is over 110 per -cent above the pre-war rate.
The settlement also provides for tae immediate resumption of work to lie followed by the resumption of negotiations for stablishing wages in various grades, which is to be completed by the cud of the year. Tho rates may be reviewed after August Ist, 1920, in accordance with the circumstances then existing. The week’s wages duo to strikers is also to be paid. The union guarantees that loyalists and others who returned to work during the strike will not be unprejudicially treated by the strikers.
