OTAKI PUBLIC LIBRARY.
A well-attended meeting of the committee of the above was held at tho reading-room yesterday afternoon, the Kev. G. P. Petrie, M.A., presiding. Several applications were received for the vacant position of librarian. These were considered by the meeting, but it was decided to hold over the acceptance of any, pending the arrangement for various ' improvements repaired to tho building. The committee decided that it was essential that tho living rooms attached to the library be renovated, while it was also thought necessary to add a bathroom and scullery and effect other minor improvements. The chairman and Mr Freeman were doputcd to secure prices for the improvements required, and submit same to a further meeting to be held as soon as convenient. The matter of providing means for" the improvements was discussed, and it was resolved to hold :i shop day at an early date, with the object of raising funds for same. Mesdames Swabcy, Fox and Cook, and Miss'O'Rourke were appointed a committeo to make arrange for the shop, and it is hoped the i public will lend their cordial support. i The kind offer of tho donation of a ' «opy of the "Times" History of the World, by Mr Harold Coekrcll, was accepted heartily, with thanks.
