FARMERS FOR PROGRESS.

COMPREHENSIVE RESOLUTION. At the annual Dominion Conference of the Now Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr C. K. Wilson (Auckland) moved that the pressing need for a progressive development policy be urged on the Government, embracing, amongst other things (1) the making available of the unused lands of the Crown and of Native and European owners, and by the acquisition by the Crown of properties already in production which can bo acquired at prices allowing for successful closer settlement; (2) provision and improvement of access by roads and railways and communication by mail, telegraph and telephone; (3) review and revision of tho public service system and administration; (4) development of our facilities and the encouragement of agricultural education; (5) improvement and cheapening of the means of transport both in our internal and external trade; (0) comprehensive development of hydroelectric power; (7) development of harbourage where-needful and development of facilities for the navigation of inland waterways; (S) protection against -the exploitation of our pro- ; ducts by trusts and combines and dis- [ couragement of the holding of land for f purely speculation purposes. The'motion was seconded by Mr J. [ H. Joll and agreed to without discus- : sion.
