MANAEAU BRANCH. Thero was a splendid attendance of s*me 25 members and a number of ladies at the meeting of the Manalcau branch of the Y.M.C.A. at the Manakau sehoolhouse last night, when Mr Res. Atkins presided. The Rev. W. G. Slade, M.A., gave a splendid and most appropriate address on "The Aims of Sport." Mr Slade said that true sport helped largely in the building up of character, us well as developing the physique. He pointed out some of tho dangers arising from sport, and ugod his hearers to keep their sports clean. He also deneunced professionalism in sport, gambling, and other evils, and said the .Y.M.C.A. stood for clean sport. Messrs Gilbert, Andrew and Cameron joined in the discussion which ensued, and a most pleasant and profitable evening was spent.
At next fortnightly meeting a mixed pregramme will be provided, and supper will be provided by the ladies, who are cordially invited to attend meetings.
Boxing classes arc held weekly and are exciting keen interest.
