OTAKI FIRE BRIGADE

The monthly meeting of tho Otaki ' Fire Brigade was held at the station /

on Wednesday night, Captain W. Bas-

sett presiding. Only eight members

were present.

Two new members —Messrs A. K. Budkin and Bon Satherley—were balloted for and declared unanimously elected.

It was decided to continue as a branch of the Association, so that members might participate in benefits to be derived.

The insurance of members was discussed, and it was considered that as firemen gave thoir services it was only fair that ratepayers, through the local body, should pay for the insurance. It ■was therefore decided to ask the Town Board to pay the necessary levies, viz., between £3 and £4. Owing to the paucity of attendance at monthly meetings it was agreed that a change of night might overcome the trouble, and in consequence a notice of motion was given that in future the meetings be held on the second Monday in each month. An informal discussion took place on fire-fighting appliances. It was argued that- the present engine was practically useless, but as finance was a stumbling block no new scheme was advanced.
