DISTRICT NURSE FOR WAIKANAE.
'At the Palmerston North nospilai Board meeting yesterday a letter was read from the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, stating that it bad an application from a provisional committee set up at Waikanac for the establishment of a district nurse in that district. The town of Waikanac was in the local Board district, though the settlers there would require the nurse’s Services to extend iuto the Wellington Board’s district. Tho question arose as to whieh Board should appoint the nurse, and it was thought inadvisable for the nurse to be under the dual control of both Boards^ The Chairman said the whole question of district nurses should be subSiitted to a conference of Hospital Boards.
' Mr Hornblow said tho Wellington papers had stated that the district nurse mentioned had been definitely appointed by the Wellington Board, and this had been done without.referiencc to the local Board. Ho moved that the Wellington Board be written to stating the matter was under consideration by the local Board and that In the meantime they accept no responsibility in the matter. The motion was carried.
- [lt is evident tho Palmerston Board Ynembcrs were confused between the TTaikanae and Paraparaumu applications for district nurses. The nurse for Paraparaumu has been advertised for by the Wellington Board, but the Waikanac application, which was also sent to the Wellington Board, was referred t* the Palmerston Board as mentioned hbove.—Ed.
