MOTOR FATALITY.
A motor accident accompanied with fatal results occurred on Friday morning on the Woodville-Napier road, when Mr P. Carrigan, employed as a barman at the Masonic Hotel, Dunnevirke, lost his life. Tho deceived accompanied Mr Batoup, land agent in the employ of Mr F. C. Stubbs, on a trip to Wellington in order to meet Mr Batcup’s soldier brother. On the return journey they stayed some time in Woodville and left late that night for home. Being very tired after the long journey, Batcup allowed deceased to take the wheel. The roads were very slippery and after rounding a sharp curve they came upon a bridge
and struck the guard-rail, this being about two miles on the Danncvirko side of Woodville. Tho ear was capsized into the stream and Carrigan was pinned underneath. Batcup got clear and,; was uninjured. He, however, was in the water for some time trying to rescue deceased, but was unsuccessful, and was drowned.
Mr Carrigan was a returned soldier, about 30 years of age and single.
