MANAKAU.
A meeting of the Peace Committee was held on Wednesday night, when there was a good attendance. Mr Howard Andrew presided. The various sub-committees reported progress, and j everything was stated to be well in hand, and provided the weather was I fine the function should prove a huge | success. A subscription list was openI ed, and promises of support are general. It was decided that tho general public I and children assemble at 9.30 a.ra., I flags and rosettes will then be presented to the children, a march round tho block will follow, anrl then the National Anthem sung. The sports programme will open at 11 a.m., and several interesting events are promised. The ladies were reported to be working indefatigable, and arc preparing an excellent spread for the kiddies. At the conclusion of the meeting the chairman expressed regret that he had to retire for a time from, public life. It was against his “grain” to do so, but he hoped after a spell to return fit and well, when he would re-enter into public life. Mr Atkins spoke eulogistieally of Mr Andrew’s services, wished him well, and trusted soon to seo him again take up tho cudgels for Manakau. “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and cheers followed.
