VALEDICTORY.
RESIGNATION OF CR. LAW. Cr. Law. who has decided to leave the district and to settle at Wliakai tane, tendered his resignation at the - last meeting of the above Council. The Chairman (Cr. G. A. Monk), in speaking of the resignation, said there was probably no one on the coast known list ter than Cr. Law, as hu had identified himself with various organ: -utions. and bad been a moving ;rif in dairying. rifle shooting, and Council mutters, and it was therefore with much regret that he hoard Cr. Law was about to leave. All knew that Cr. Law was a man of his word, and if he thought a thing he said ir. He thanked Cr. Law for his support in the Council and wished him success. Cr. Harknrtss said he had had occasion to come into contact with Cr. Law, and never bad he found him a shuffler, but, /in the other hand, found him ft man to speak his mind. Cr. Whyte expressed regret that Cr. Law was leaving the community, and as hi- r ollesg' c they had worked amicably together. Cr Law had always taken a keen interest in anything for the advancement of the district. . Cr. Broadbelt said he had always found Cr. Law fair-minded and publicspirited, and had always given a solid push for the advancement of useful
organisations. Cr. ' Law, in returning thanks, thought some of the remarks overdone, but one thing he would adroit, and that , was that be always said what he meant, but. unfortunately, he failed in (patting hi* expressions into words. He had always tried to do what was right, and he was leaving the district after 27 years stay with feelings of regret. He was: leaving for two ; reasons—one because his health was not good sad he thought a change would be beneficial, and further because he wished to put his family “on the land.’’ he feeling that as they had done their duty for the country a** "so’dit-rs he should in re- 1 turn do his best for them.
