Meat Co. Private Ficd Hudson, late of Levin and Parapurnumu, is due back by the Alumina, which arrives at Auckland tomorrow. Lieut. J. J. Davison, writing from England, says it- is absolutely certain that all New Zealand boys will be out of England by the end of July. Personally' speaking he hoped to be home by
the end of August. The Kcv. 0. G. Blathwayt, who has been principal of the Native College at Otaki for some years, has been appointed to the charge of St. Hilda’s. Island Bay, in place of the Rev. J. A public farewell was tendered to the Rev. F. H. Petrie, AI.A., and Airs Petrie in Afoorc’s llall, Johnsonvillo. on Alouday evening, when there was a large I gathering of residents. On the plat--1 form were the churchwardens and the j chairman of the Johnson villo Town Board. Speeches were made by Air F. i Bothune and Air F. T. AI core, and a cheque and cash amounting io £4O was i presented to Air and Airs Petrie and a gold brooch to their daughter, Atiss Alolly Petrie. The many friends of Air and Mrs j John Whitaker, of AVeraroa road, will hear with icgret of tlie sad bereavement they have sustained in tlm loss of iheir youngest son, John, who died at midday yesterday in the Wellington Hospital, alter an illness extending over ten days. The deceased young man has hem employed in the office of Alessrs Sargood, Son and Ewen, AVellington. for the past, two years, and | showed every promise of a successful ! life, which has been cut short with | painful sudeenoss.
