MILK SHORTAGE.
; IMPROVEMENTS AT OTAKI,
There is still a serious shortage of milk in Wellington, and, according to Cr. Norwood, chairman of the" City Council’s Milk Committee, who was questioned by a “Post” reporter, no immediate relief can be hoped for. “The milk required for the city is certainly not being raised witliiu the area at our disposal,” ho said, “flic committee has just paid a visit to Otaki with the object- of considering making additions to the country station and the installation of a freezing plant. It is 1 ho committee’s intention to develop the country receiving station practice, inasmuch its through this department we are able to"obtain till the milk a few hours after milking, treat it, and, under arrangements 11111011 we hope to make with the Railways Department, it will be brought to Wellington in specially designed trucks, all ready for distribute,."to the public. The committee’s original report proposed that one of these stations should be obtained on each of the railway lines to Wellington, and experience has shown that we would have been in a better position today had we gone the whole length immediately. However, the matter of! extension in this direction will be considered by the committed at an early date.”
