Mrs Treadwell,- widow of the Rev. James Treadwell, of Wanganui, died on Friday. The deceased lady arrived in Wanganui in IS7G, Mr “Tom” Me Coil, who recently returned from the front, and who was for some time in business in Otaki as saddler, has opened a business in Eaetihi.
Mr Maurice Ralph, New Zealand representative of- Messrs J. and N. Tait, is advised that Sir Harry Lauder hopes to open his New Zealand tour at Wellington in July. Mrs Mcßeath, who has been an inmate of the Otaki Hospital for some little time, is now much improved in health, we are glad to say, and has returned to her home at Otaki.
The many friends of Staff-Nurse £• M. Lewis, at one time district nurse at Otaki, and who has twice been on active service, will be pleased to hear sue is due back by the Toftm, which is expected to arrive at Port Chalmers on Mav
■ Rev. Father Hurley,, SAL. Administrator of ivt. Joseph’s Parish, and late of Oban, who has this last few Maysbeen confined to hls room at tae Pre-sby* terv. Patterson street, owing to indisposition, is now reported- to be much better.
Mr -John Montague,. of Messrs J. Myers and Co.’s staff, Wellington, who, ! while on z visit to Otaki during fire Christmas holidays, was thrown off the step of a motor car as the vehicle went round a corner, has now resumed Ms duties with the firm. Mr E. Lnnchester. who has been absent for some years on active service in the Mercantile Marino, is expected to arrive back in Hew Zealand in a. few weeks ’ .time.
Miss Horn Edith Alexander, of Wol-lingtoiij-and Mr Wm. Knapp, of Greytown, were married at St. Mark’s Church, Wellington, on Wednesday last." The bride is well known and highly*esteomed in this district, she having been cookery expert for the .Wellington Education Board for many years past.
Lieut. Koro Karauti (Ohau) has been appointed a member of the Levin Honorary Repatriation Committee; Captain Tahiwi (Otaki) has been appointed to the Wellington District Repatriation Board, and Lieut, Carkcek (Levin) to tho Palmerston North Local Committee. Theso are all Government, appointments. All tho above are officers o'f tho N.Z. Pioneer Battalion.
A Very successful and enjoyable function was held at tho Anglican schoolroom, Paraparaumu, on Wednesday evening last, to welcome the Rev. and Mrs Kenriclt, who were recently married. Several musical items were given in excellent style, while Mr and Mrs Kenriek were accorded a warm welcome and hearty congratulations. Supper was also provided. The function was a most suitable one, and passed off most pleasantly. Tho death occurred, at Levin on Friday night-last, of Mr Thomas Walker, in his 06th year. Tho late Mr Walker was very well known throughout this district. -Ho was for years manager of tho State Farm at Levin, and afterwards resided at Waikanao and Levin. He was for somo years secretary of tho Levin Horticultural Society, and always took a keen interest in horticultural matters-, of which ho had a wide knowledge. He leaves a family of four sons and three daughters.
