THE PEACE TREATY.
KAJSTTZATJ READY TO LEAVE. TERMS OF TREATY OPPOSED. ■ Paris, May 10. American correspondents in touch with tho Germans say the Germans have decided to leave for Weimar. Rantzau has ordered all the Germans to be ready to depart in 4S hours owing to the severity of the terms. Kantzau requested individual interviews with President Wilson, M. Cle-. menceau and Mr Lloyd George, but all were refused. Tho delegation takes a stand against every chapter of the terms. For instance, it demands an army of at least half a million, describes the reparation as fabulously over-estimated, and refuses even to consider such new frontiers. The Anglo-American armies of occupation remain in Germany for two years. GREAT EXPERIMENT WITH GREAT PROMISE. j Paris, May 8, j' (Sir Joseph Ward said the Treaty covered such gigantic, areas that its I length was not surprising. It was a 1 great experiment, necessarily based on uncertainty, but" if it prevented one ! great war it would confer inestimable benefit. The fact that Germany would bo compelled to give up her ill-gotten territories would be cordially approved in all civilised countries, and it would act as a limitation upon her tending in the direction of peace. The worM demanded tho ' punishment of tho Kaiser. Sir Joseph Ward said he believed that the reparation proposals would prove to be effective, and held that the financial burdens should fall on the enemy, not on the Allies. It tho I Samoans ultimately desired to join t Xew Zealand the League of Nations j would grant their wish.
