DOMESTIC TROUBLES.
Domestic troubles of a local family were ventilated in the Otaki Police Court to-day, when Messrs Frank Bennett and C. H. Williams occupied the bench. The principals were father and son. Tlio former, represented by Mr Sravclcy, contended he had been assuited by his son, who had refused to leave the home when requested to. In self-defence he had threatened to strike his son by throwing a tin of herrings at him. The defendant, represented by Mr Harper, said lie had received provocation, and in consequence had remonstrated with his father, who had threatened him with a knife, a cup, and a tin of herrings. Finally, when his father had gone outside, be collared hold of him and - took the herrings. Evidence was given bv two witnesses in support. Mr Harper contended that the assault, if it could be called such, was done under extreme provocation, and that defendant had every right tn taking the knife from his father. The Bench looked upon Ahc matter as a family quarrel, and a case that never should, have been brought before the Court, and hoped in future such cases would-bo settled-privately. Under tho circumstances the case would be dismissed, each side to pay their own costs.
