DAFFODILS.
A BATTLE 'OP GIANTS. Mr Lowe, the well-known daffodil grower, of Christchurch, has challenged Mr Robert Gibson to a battle of giants at Christchurch next September. Mr Gibson has accepted the challenge on condition that Mr Lowe meets him half-way next, year, that is to say, comes up to the Hutt with his flowers. Mr Lowe is going to ..exhibit seedlings of his own raising against Mr Gibson’s imported bulbs, and the trial will be an interesting one to those who are going in for daffodil raising from seed, and will show w-hat the New Zealand stuff is made of. Many enthusiasts who have journeyed to the Hutt and Marton .Shows know what- beautiful flowers. Mr Gibson can grow, and those who have been to ' Christchurch say that Mr Lowe's ..exhibits are hard to beat. If nothing happens to upset the arrangements the result- will be eagerly looked forward to by many growers, < and though we hope the redoubtable j Robert Gibson will hold his ow-n we ‘ cannot help wishing success to New ! Zealand grown seedlings, which are to I be shown against the choicest bulbs the | world can produce. It will be a battle ' of giants indeed.—Palmerston “Standard.”
