HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

.I MONTHLY MEETING.. The following is the remainder of our report .Of 'fluKliqst ntehti'ng of:the Hut' .County Council: —

Improvement Wanted, at Plimmerton

A deputation from Plimmerton waited on tho Council and asked for, a road round the Native Reserve. Owing to the bad state of the road motor-ears could not: be got to their residem-e-i in case of sickness, while they understood that when they took over their lands a road would be put through. They ‘also asked that the Native-cemetery be closed, and stated that during the epidemic graves were only 3ft deep, which .was not nice, especially as a school was adjacent. -They also advocated a public cemetery for Plimmerton: at .'present bodies liad to. be taken to Wellington, Johnsonville or Pahautanui. They maintained Plimmerton' -warranted a burial ground, as it : was a growing place. Cr. Galloway said the Public' Trustee had submitted a plan for the Council’s approval which the Council refused to sign. A Washing-up • Bill was put’ through Parliament declaring it a,i-oad on paper. He oensidered that rim'd; a private individual cut up the hind a proper road would have-had to be made, while the settlers were -under the impression that the Public Trustee, would make the road. Regarding the public cemeteryi Cr. Galloway thoughtapplication might be made fo the ]Toper quarter, and agreed that the Maori, cemetery should be closed. - The road where the road was lieoded was of sand-" formation,.-while land 'all luffing Vus tenanted at frequent intervals. The. Chairman suggested that Ihedeputation make representation to the member for’their district, who could apply to the Public Trustee. Cr. Galloway said the set tiers should make the road they were foolish enough to take up the. land before a road was made, and deserved to pay the penalty. Cr. Welch moved that the deputation and Cr.- Galloway wait on the Minister of .Lauds and ask that the road be attended to. Cr. Galloway said lie had waited on Mr Wright, M.P., and he refused to do anything in the matter.

Cr. Whiteman seconded the motion. —Carried. - A Sore Point. It was suggested that a motor shed in Epuni Riding be removed at once, the building being on the Council’s property. Cr. Welch, it was pointed out, gave permission for the building to be erected, provided it was removed when the Council desired. Cr Welch said that the shed in no way effected anyone, and that, tho owner (Mr Peatson) had clone much good to get the structure erected. He had cleared away a bad corner, had otherwise in; prove.l the locality,-while tho shed was on the site where gorsc was once prevalent.

A motion was previously moved tlmt Cr. Welch and the-sub-inspector (Mr Dick) lie censured for giving permission for the shed to lie erected. C'r. Howell considered this; vote at censure, was .well deserved. Cr. Welch said he had no objection to the vote being passed on him. but objected to Mr Dick, who had nothing to do with.the matter, being-included. Cr. Galloway thought, under the circumstances, Mr Dick's name should be withdrawn.

On tho- matter being put it was do cided that the motion, passing the vote of censure on both, be allowed to.stand. Cr. Howell raised objection to the shed remaining, and considered the Council would give away land belonging to others and yet would not give a shilling of their own to a widowed woman.

It was finally agreed to leave the shed on the section during the pleasure of the Council.
