MEMBERS OF HUTT COUNCIL AT VARIANCE. At the lust meeting of the Hutt County Council a somewhat animated discussion took place, the question of a motor waggon being under Or. Welch considered tho waggon dump was not up to what he thought, and he was under, the impression that it work.ed on a different principle to what some councillors had said. The dump, he said, had hot been in use three months, yet, he understood, it needed attention. He asked that u committee, consisting of tho chairman, Or. Galloway and himself be appointed to go into the matter and report, such committee to interview the seller and ascertain if the machine was vvlmt it was represented to be.

I Cr. Cavimagh seconded the motion. | Cr. Howell said Cr. Welch may have i stated what he knew was deliberately 1 untrue, or did not have sufficient, intelligence to grasp' the situation. He ' should not go on a carping expedition, Cr. Howell said there was no misrepresentation tipping apparatus —he know it to be a New Zealand production, and pointed out that a similar machine had paid for itself in nine months in New Plymouth. Or. Welch had made insinuations, but never offered assistance, and if a committee was to be appointed then, said Mr Howell, let all councillors attend and get advice. He considered the Council had saved some £.IOO on..its purchase, and pointed out that the-waggon only consumed a tin of benzine per day. Cr. Welch thought the purchase illegally made.

Cr. Galloway considered the waggon should do more than it had done, and pointed out that on one occasion it did 1-1 miles a day with 1J yards—equal to two carts and horses. The Chairman seconded an amendment to the effect that Crs. Howell and Whiteman be added to the committee. Cr. Welch objected. The amendment on being put was declared lost. The motion was then put and carried.
