MOUNT HECTOR TRACK.

WAIRARAPA COMMITTEE’S ACTIVITIES. Messrs Frank Wall, T. C. Vdy and H. Bassett, a sub-committee of the Mount Hector Track Committee, have just returned from a trip from Greytown to Otaki. In Otaki they met Mr Hector Nieolson, .and lie expressed his willingness to assist them in their endeavour to improve the Hector Track. The sub-committee met the general committee on Friday evening, and handed in the following report:—We bog herewith to hand in our report on the site for a new whore. In accordance with your desire we have inspected the several sites for a whare between Mount Hector and Mount Deunnn. We find that, it is absolutely necessary to pack the material from the Otaki side, as the proposition to do so from Grey town is - impracticable. Alter inspecting the site suggested by the laic Mr 11. K Girdlcstone, r.8.G.5.. and others nearby we have much pleasure in recommending a site some half a mile south of Mount Dcnuan, aud we would also suggest that the Otiiki Committee be asked to orec-t the hut. We are given to understand that tlio Otaki Committee have some funds in hand, therefore if it will undertake to erect a hut and a second one ou or near the Otaki Gorge road near the track spur, this committee undertake to assist the proposal monetarily. In addition to building the said huts, tho track on the Otaki side requires some urgent attention. We beg to put on record that the hut known as “Judd’s” is not now available, but the present owner will allow tourists to avrtil themselves of his woolshed. The track from Tidy's farm to Reeves’ requires some attention, and we suggest that a- menus of doing tho work should be gone into. After the above work is completed, we would strongly recommend that a “dug out” be put in or at near Mount Hector for emergency purposes.—Frank Wall, T. C. Udy. R. Bassett.

It was decided that the secretary (Mr Maxton) write to Mr Kicolson requesting him to lay the matter before the Otaki Committee, as follows: —(1) That the Otaki Committee be asked to repair the track towards Mount Deunan; (2) that it be asked to "erect a whare at br near the site chosen by the sub-committee, i.c., about half a mile on tho Hector side of Mount Dennan; (3) that if it will do so, this committee is prepared to donate £ for £ towards cost of same up to £SO. The desirability-of having the above work done this season was strongly urged.—Wairarapa ‘ 1 Standard. ’ ’
