A Child 22 Honrs Without Food.
The Bendigo Independant states that he residents of Eaglchawk have been mazed at the heartless and inhuman L’eatment meted out to the child
prisoner, Young, charged with the ! arceny of a tin of fish. The lad—he ' t motherless—is a little over 12 years i age. 111-clad, wet, and in damp lothes, and during the severest weather -e have had for years, he was thrust : do a cold lock-up cell before midday ■rod was not looked at again until 9 /clock nest morning. He was 22 hours without food, and worse than hat, without a blanket or any bedlothes to cover him. The poor child, .hen found in the morning, was nearly Tozen to death. And this at Eaglebawk, and with 14 pairs of unused blankets in a spare room ofthe lock-up. The excuse of the officer in charge that ..e had correspondence and a football natch to attend will not hold water, jince the above, Sergeant Lannin has been suspended, and Superintendent i ‘erry directed to hold an inquiry.
