Football.
A meeting of those interested in football was held in Mr Howard Seccombe's room on Wednesday evening. Mr R. Callender occupied the chair, and there were about 18 others present. The following officers were elected : President, Mr W. W. Midldeton; VicePresidents, Messrs G. W. Gane, T. Knowles, and M. J. Brennan; Captain, Mr R. Callender; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Howard Seccombe. Resolved that' the colours be dark blue and white sash.
Resolved that the subscription for the present year be 2s JBd. Resolved, That Messrs H. Brewer and W. Humphries act in conjunction with the secretary as a Committee of Management. Resolved that the secretary, in conjunction with the Cricket Club, apply to the Domain Board for ground. After a little further discussion, the meeting adjourned, with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
The following "team will represent Opunake in the football match against Otakebo on Saturday :—Full-back, R. A. Callander (Captain); three-quarters, T. Carter, Hohaia, and H. Brewer; half-backs, J. and F. Guy, and T. Martin ; forwards, Dickson, F. Carter, W. and T. Humqhries, J. Hickey, H. Loveridge, J. Peacock, and A. Guy. Play commences at three sharp. The selection committee recommended the following players to represent the North Island in the match to be played at Auckland against New South Wales on the 29th inst:—Backs —A. Bayly, H. Good, W. Bayly ; forward's—J. Lambie, McMillan, and Watson. If weight were the chief requisite we have it here, as these men average 18st 31b, but in addition they combine pace, strength, science, and a thorough knowledge of the game. — Star. ,
