HOME AND FOREIGN. Pretoria, August 14. The Kaffirs in Zoutspanberg are again in revolt, and are attacking Agatha. Troops have been sent to repel them. London, August 14. Lord Ealeigh, a well-known professor of natural philosophy, has informed the British Association for the Advancement of Science that he has discovered a new gas atmosphere. It is now believed that the Japanese attack on the naval station and arsenal at Weihawai was a ruse to ascertain the number and strength of the guns. A trawler's boat, conveying a number of passengers to Tenby watering place, in Wales, capsized, and twenty of those on board were drowned. Paris, August 13. France and Libera havs arranged the frontier question. Under the new agreement Liberia becomes almost a French Protectorate. Shanghai, August 13. The Emperor of China proposes to raise a foreign loan for the expenses of the war. The Coreans are starving, and are appealing to America for help. Rome, August 13 Four towns, including Aci and Fieri, have been destroyed by the earthquake in Sicily. The people have fled into the open country. Sydney, August 13. Smith, teller in the Grafton branch of the English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, has been arrested on a charge of the alleged robbery .of £IOOO. He states that by mistake he he left a tray containing the money out of the safe on Saturday. On Sunday he recollected it and informed the manager. Both went to the Bank and found the money gone. Melbourne, August 14. A building in the Eastern Arcade undergoing repairs, collapsed this morning. One man was killed, and several others were buried in the debris. A search is being made for the victims. % Later. Three workmen have been rescued from the collaped building, in a badly injured condition. One victim was a passer-by named Hannah. There were many narrow escapes, and amongst the list was the Hon. M. A. Zeal, President of the Legislative Council.
