OPOTIKI COMMITTEE MEETS many offers of'help The move in Opotiki to aid China tljrough the combined relief organi-, sations known as Corso has touch-, ed a responsive chord in people who arfc anxious to help distress suffered by brave fighter against aggresion m the war., ' At the meeting of the Corso Committee., held on Thursday night the chairman (Mr. T. I. Steele) said that a most gratifying response had come from district organisations! invited to help with the street stall and collection on Friday, December sth. Without- exception the officers in charge ox the Women’s Institutes had undertaken to ask their members, to support .the stall with goods and a similar offer came from the Sunshine League.

The men of the, district have not been forgotten. Messrs. W, A. Gault and E. J. Baigent have kindly volunteered to take Corso collecting boxes to the sale on December -Ith. They ’will be provided with “lapel receipts” in order that farmers who make donations at the sale on Thursday may', not. be approached again on the Friday.

The tables at" the stall will be in, charge of Mrs. W. J. Inskip (fruit and vegetables), Mesdames Porter .and Mahoney (cakes and sweets),' Mesdames Quirk and Baird (needlework and faneywork and Flowm;.? (Miss E. Bridge and Mesdames S. Parkinson and W. Beattie.) Owing to the kindness of Messrs. Boris Black and others there wiil be one or two attractive rallies.

An emergency appeal from Corso for hospital equipment and drugs for China has been met by Opotiki medical men, hospital and chemists and Mrs. S. A. R. Badeley is in charge of this department.

Recently the N.Z. Council of Churches appealed lor 10,U0U pairs of used women’s shoes for workers in central. Europq. A Church appeal in Opotiki resulted in the packing of an extra large, ease of shoes. There was nob a poor pair and some were almost new. Corso despatched the shoes from, Wellington, a total of 15,090 pairs.
