TRACK NOTES
» (By Arrissimo.) Most of the Couul-y mokes were in on Thursday doing their track work and incidentally giving the giad eye to the "tabbies”. "Bruiser” who is engaged in the Ohiwa Hack got a ily out at barrier practice, but it’s the other end that counts. “Profiteer”, his opponent, is a silent worker on the mud fiats. The AVaiotahi Scurry field were all out during the week. All seem well forward. Kukunioa Lad and Paerata Jack are the ruling favourites at the moment, but Argumentative cannot be left out of calculations and is in good solid condition, Alamein Jack is not s 0 much in evidence and the longer race might be too much for him ; however, he is assured of solid backing. The Hospital Welter has resolved
itself into the big race of the day. It is to be run in divisions. The Borough division should see Horticulture and News Fiend fighting it out at the finish. Pharmacy is not the same horse as last time out. The County division around which most interest is centred has aroused a deal of controversial talk lately. The top weight Haw Haw makes a decided noise and seems to bo touched in the wind. Madam Victor one hears little about] still I think she should run into a' place. A.panui Jack lias come into favour in some quarters and put up a good trial with Kukuiuoa-Lad and
AViremu the otijer day, and all three arc expected to go well. Soldier Sam has been doing well on the track lately and has a stayer’s chance. In a big field lie is handicapped a trifle, but favoured with a good run will be knocking at the finish. Alamein Dick has a prior engagement and will have a hard run to score a double. He did well in this event last time. Profitedis keeping very quiet as to training times. Poo Ba and AAhiirata Jack are not much in evidence and a- guide to their form, is hard (o arrive at.
The Borough Stakes is expected to provide a few upsets. Chatty, Scotland Forever, Provisions and News Fiend are amongst the favourites. Devil's Own has deteriorated slightly during the past week. Rosaday has been eased up but might freshen up a bit. Sawdust is back in serious work on the fiat after a spell on the hill country. Whit is still a bit sore and the hard going is against: him. Spider Web is an early worker and just what he is doing one cannot say. Tin Lizzie and Shorty put up a good show last week. Still either will pay a price to win. They arc both in the same stable.
