TO THE EDITOR
THE PUBLIC MEETING « Sir, —1 l'eei it my duty to reply to the letter appearing in last issue under the nom-de-plumo of “Fair Flay” in which unwarranted reference is made to “supporters of the National Bartv.” May 1 point out that the meeting had nothing whatever to do with the National Party. It was convened by the County Council for thfc purpose of obtaining the con Urination by tingeneral public of resolutions as to the Opotiki-Taneatua Railway and State Highway. At the outset, the Chairman of the meeting stressed that the meeting was entirely non-political, and throughout the meeting lie endeavoured to keep politics out of the diseussic n. I am noit prepared tm allow “Bair Play" to mislead members of the public not present at. the meeting with false insinuations as to the National Party being responsible for the ’conduct of the meeting. I say definitely that the local National Party Branch had no part in the .meeting nor wen l the purposes of the meeting ever discussed by the Branch or its officials. EL U. EAST.
