OBITUARY

PROM IN ENT C JTJI EN PAS-'ES MU. , C. H. ELEMI-vG The death of Air. C. H. Ele.ming, which occurred in Auckland early thm morning after a' serious operation, came as a shock to residents of Opotiki, and his death has removed from out midst one who has taken for some eighteen years, a keen and active interest in many of tire local bodies and social I'unetio>ns of Opotiki town and district. Coming here'from Auckland, where he was accountant of the. Now Zealand Express Co., about eighteen years ago, he entered into partnership with the late Air. W. B. Kelly, and carried on for some years, a sue. cr. ssl'ii I transport business. Kor a number of years lie was a member of the Opotiki Borough Council and later he became town clerk, a position lie held for about ten years. He was secretary of the Opotiki Eire Board since its inception, until the time ot his death and took a very prominent part in the formation of that bedv. He was also secretary of the Chamber of Commerce for a< number of years, secretary of the -Mediailies Institute, auditor for some years to the Opotiki Daily Association, and on two different occasions was a member ol the Opotiki Hospital Board. He was also secretary of the Opotiki Bowling Club and secretary of tho Opotiki Club. lie has been treasurer c| the Masonic .Lodge in Opotiki for many years. Mr. Fleming’s services as accompanist at .social evenings will also be greet ly missed. Deceased is survived by his widow and two children. Mrs. L. Sinclair ol Opotiki, and MT. J. Fleming of Whaugar d. Tho funeral, which will he held in Auckland at 11. a.m, to-morrow, will be conducted by Rev. 1). N. AlacDiarmid.
