ACCOMMODATION SHORTAGE IiFPBFSFiNTATIUNS 'TO DFPABTMJONT. The following letter- lias been received by Air. A. G. Hultquist AI.P., for the Bay of Plenty, from the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education:— “In continuation of my letters of the 19th. and 27th. April, regarding the need of additional accommodation at the Opotiki District- High School, 1 find on making enquiries that the Education Board lias submitted an application for a substantial grant to cover the cost of the erection of a new secondary Department ,on the new site and for the remodelling of the existing primary building amt the erection of an additional class-room. “The Board, however, in submitting its list of urgent works for the current financial year, has not placed the. proposal amongst the most urgent cases. In view of your representations, however, the Education Board lias been asked to indicate whether the work can now be regarded as of greater urgency, “On receipt of a reply, the matter will have further attention and 1 shall he pleased to advise you as soon as a decision is reached. CONVEY ANUE OF CHILDREN OPONAIW AND WAiRATA The following letter has been received from the secretary, of the Education Board. Auckland, by the chairman of the Opotiki School Committee: “.Referring to my letter dated 6th. instant, I have to. state that the sec-r ret ary to the Deparment tele-phoned this office yesterday stating that it was considered that the best- course to follow would lie to arrange for a conveyance service to lie run from Op on ay to AYairata and for a school ten be.,opened at AYairata to serve bqtlf-dis-tricts. “The Department also considered that it would be better to arrange for a conveyance service to Waiooku native school and Opotiki from a point 11 miles from Opotiki District High School instead of for the shorter route proposed by the committee. Seen a service would serve both the native school and Opotiki District. High School. “I have to ask you to lie good enough to obtain and submit to the Board, local prices for conveyance- of children ever the route suggested by the Department.”
