LECTURE AND DISPLAY

SOME FINE ENTRIES . , The .monthly lecture and display evening of the Opotiki and District Horticultural Society was held in the Parish Hall last evening, the president, Mr. J. D. Clark presiding over a fair attendance of -members and V friends. There was a goodi display of blooms, notwithstanding the scarcity of flowers. Some very fine specimens were to be seen, notably a bo.wl of stock, vase of proteas, vase of beautiful pink carnations, bowl of splendid roses for so late in the season, a unique spray of lily, poppies and many other flowers. The most outstanding exhibit was to a bowl of red azaleas, exhibited by Airs. Stuart. Air. Greig, Government orchard instructor, gave an interesting talk on fungoid diseases and their relation to horticulture, and the lecture proved most educational. The next meeting will be held on the second Tuesday in July, and a lecture ivill he given by AIT. McDonald. Many early spring Hewers will he iii bloom and the meeting should prove a very good one. The judge at last night’s evening was Miss Ariel, of North Auckland. Monthly points Competition The leaders in the' monthly aggregate points competition are as follows : Airs. Beattie and Airs. McGregor 53. Mrs. Baird and Air. Ale-Mi Man 41). Airs. Quirlv 47. Airs. Woodside and Airs. Hoi I aid 44. Members’ positions may be had bv getting in touch with the secretary.
