W.D.F.U.
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Opctiki Branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday, May 4, tlieir being a large attendance. In the absence of the president, Mrs. A. F. Martin, the chair was occupied, by the vice-president, Airs. C. "Hollard. The meeting opened with the reading of the creed. The minutes of the previous jneeting were read andl confirmed. Airs. Fox gave a brief account of the meeting held in Awakeri the previous week.
Airs. G. Shalfocn, Airs. Martin and Airs. AY. Lowe were elected members of the new provincial committee. A letter was read from the Mayor, Air. G. S'. Moody. stating that representatives were required for the Centennial Committee. Airs. Fox and Airs. Martin were appointed the division’s representatives. it was decided that a donation of £5 lie sent to the community chest in AYellington.
Airs. A. Neal very kindly offered to hold a card evening to raise funds for the W.D.F.U., the date set being the last Thursday in the month. The roll call was the sketching of the president, the result causing great amusement. A vocal duet was given by Mrs. Hollard and Airs. Barbour; Airs. Joblin presiding at the piano. A competition arranged by Airs. Hollard was won by Airs. Barbour. Competition for best flower was won by Airs. Hollard, with Airs. Barbour second. A very dainty afternoon tea was served by the, hostesses, Alesdames Neal, Level! ancl Lambert. A vote of thanks to the hostesses and the chair was passed and the singing of the National Anthem brought- a very cheery afternoon to a close.
