FOUR GENERATIONS AT CHRISTENING

An interesting little ceremony took place at St. Stephen’s Church on Sunday, when the infant son of Mr. and Ahs. A. W. Turner was christened Lancet Wirinui, the Itev. C. G. G. Saltofficiated. Four generations were present at the ceremony. In addition to the baby’s parents, the, grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Sydenham, Woodlands road,- and great-grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Sydenham, Waioeka road, were also present. VALEDICTORY A pleasing little function took place after the evening service at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, when Mr. and Alls. D. A aid were farewelled. The Rev. A. C. Hampton acted as chairman and referred to the valuable services rendered to the church by both Mr. and Mrs. Auld. Mr. Auld has been ~a very valuable church official-for many years while Mrs. Auld has rendered service as an organist and also as a member of the choir. Other speakers were Messrs. M. G. Reeves, J. It. Gow and J. R. Sinclair. A suitable presentation was made by the Rev. Hampton. At the usual weekly practice of the Opotiki Choral Society, the opportunity was taken by the members to fare"weir Airs Auld, who lias occupied the position of pianist since Mrs. A. H. Hilford left the district. The president. Air. H. S. Holmes, spoke in eulogistic terms of her very valuable ,ser-.vic-es to the society and expressed deep regret at her departure from the district. He said that Mrs. Auld had always been willing to. assist in any way, possible. Mr. Button, in the absence of Prof. Puryer through illness, nisc spoke of the great loss the society had sustained in losing their two pianists in such a short time. He said 1 that Mrs. Auld’s place would be very difficult to fill and her services would Miot only be missed by the society but by the district generally, as she had always been ready to lend a helping hand at various functions. A preseri- - tatiori of two books was made to Mrs. Auld by the president, on behalf of the society. During the eventing the choir rendered several numbers. Supper was provided by the ladies and the evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.

DANCE AT WOODLANDS There "'as a good attendance at the fortnightly dance held in the A\ oodinutls Hall on Friday night. The music teas supplied by My. J. Mannix and ADStave-ly performed the duties of jNJ.C. Monte Carlos were won by Aliss ,J. AlcGregor and Air. O. Harrison and Miss G. Fain and Mr. L. Gordon. A eonipetition was won by Airs.
