OPOTIKI RUGBY UNION ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Opotiki Rugby. Union was held in the ALission Hall on Aljomday evening, Mr. T. Hickey occupying the chair. The minutes of the. previous annual -meeting were read by the secretary, Air. F. Chapman. The annual report and balance-sheet were also- read and adopted. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £39, this being a slight improvement over that of last year. Eiection-of Officers. Ration, Air. J. H. Reid (.re-elect-ed). President, Air. G. S. Aloody (reelected). Vice-presidents, presidents of affiliated clubs. Hon. Surgeon, Drs. A. J. Brass and tJ. J. Alail. Hon. Auditor, Air. C. H. Fleming. Secretary and Treasurer, Air. 1). Bennett. Delegates to Union, Alessrs. Hiekev, AleCullough, F. Chapman, Al. .Delaine re, T. Black and others to be appointed;. Selectors.—lt was decided to appoint three junior selectors, and Messrs. Alulliern, All. Patterson and Soutlierau were elected. Air. W. Barrett was appointed soie senior selector, several members expressing complete confidence in Air. Barrett as a sole* selector. Three third grade selectors were appointed as follows: Alessrs. Barrett, Shove and Seville. Delegates to the Bay, of Plenty Union: Alessrs. C. Black and L. Davies. •’Third grade management committee : Alessrs. Shove, Barrett and Davies S' f ■ Mr Wood expressed the opinion that a grading committee should be set up and moved that it be a recommendation to the management committee. Other speakers supported the suggestion, and mentioned glaring eases in which players had been in grades to which they did not belong. ALr. Davies moved as. a- recommendation to the committee that third grade football be given more prominence.—Carried).
Mr. 0. Black gave notice of motion that he iutendled to move that the. voting at annual meetings he extended to include delegates from junior and third grade teams. M*r. Hickey .moved that an extraordinary general meeting he called for the purpose of considering the notice of motion. Mr. McCullough moved that it oq a recommendation to the incoming committee that a levy of up to two guineas he made on each club for the purpose of securing balls to ensure that a. hall is always on the ground.—Carried.
Mir. Davies, on behalf of the primary schools, thanked tile union for their support last year, and made application for the use o’f Connolly’s paddock for a 7 a-side tournament he be held on 6th. June. Air. Bllack suggested that the veterans open the. season by challenging a representative team, the funds to go t-oi insurance. Air. Davies suggested that on some Saturdays a 7’ a-side match be put on by third grade players during the interval. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting. ,
