YOUNG FARMERS CLUB PIC CLUB

BALLOT FOR YOUNG PIGS The following members of the Opotiki Young Fanners’ Club Pig Club were successful in the ballot for the progeny of the club sow—nine in number:—Messrs. G. Murray, • H. Young, G. Bennett and R. Bennett each drew a sow piglet.- and in the ballot for the boar piglets,. Alessrs. L Beattie, FI. Thompson, A. Beaufoy, I. 'Grant and S .Cooper drew one each. The ballot was conducted on the farm of the club’s custodian, Air. E. Thompson.

The clu!)| has arranged to have its sow mated again with the sire of the litter just balloted for, and arc hopeful of obtaining a ’ litter yielding results similar to those already experienced. As these piglets averaged 50 lbs. live weight at eight weeks aid. interest will now centre around the future progress of the animals under the care of the individual owners. The care and attention given will in return reflect the owner’s pig-miniled-ness ancl ability to control and care for his pigs, and the local A. aiid P. show Association might well consider the introduction to their next show schedule of a section or classes catering for pig club members, and in particular a class for the younger members of the farming community, and thus stimulate entries in a wider sense, thereby serving a two-fold purpose in encouraging farmers as well as pedigree breeders. 'The latter have in the past monopolised this section of the show associations throughout the Bay of Plenty district in this respect.
