'l'lie controversy regarding the hours to be observed in retail promise's during Christmas and New weeks has been proceeding lor a week, and keen interest has developed in the argument as to whether I 1 riduy or Saturday night should In* the late shopping night. Various points of view have been expounded, and each day inis brought forth some new suggestion or recommendation to the retailers generally.

Christmas trade if the controversy is not settled, leading representatives ol the two main groups have agreed to submit the question at the meeting tlii.: week. One speaker from each group will he selected to debate the question at the meeting, and a vote will he taken later, on the basis ol one vote 1 loi each retailor or manager, plus one \ etc for every serving assistant in each ol the premises concerned.
