GARDENING OIKCLE The monthly meeting of the Gardening Circle of the Opotiki Women’s Institute' was held at the home of Airs. Bennett recently. Airs. A terry, vice-president, presided over a large attendance. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary, Aliss Bridge, and Mrs. Short read an article on the cultivation of azalea and rhododendron. The" competitions resulted as follows: Best vegetable: Airs. Baird (cabbage) 1, Airs. -Merry (radish) 2. Three best flowers: All’s. Bennett 1, Alt’s. Fisher 2. Airs. Sydenham olfered her home for the next meeting and the competitions wore arranged l as follows :—Three best, flowers and lady’s buttonhole. The Roll Call is to he a “paper cutting” pertaining to flowers or gardening* The flower and vegetable gardens were very much admired. The young pheasants, chickens and puppies also came in for their share of admiration. A very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon was spent by everyone and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to .Mrs. .Bennett. The circle also called at. the home of Aliss Neilson. tot view a bed oi magnificent giant amaryllis.
