CLASSES AT THEATRE
OPPOSITION BY BUARD SCREENING OF FILM Opposition to schoolchildren attending cinemas during school honrs was voiced by members of the Wanganui Education Board at a recent meeting. The hoard reaffirmed its attitude that schoolchildren should not. he granted leave to attend theatres during times when they should he present at school classes, despite a protest from the Headmasters’ Association. The chairman, -Mr. E. E. Hemingway, reported that, in accordance with the hoard’s pell icy, he had declined, to allow children to attend the screening of “Captain Scott’s Last Expedition” in school hours. The hoard was definite on the matter and theatre proprietors should arrange their programmes to suit the children and not i xpeet their classes to he upset on that account* The Wanganui Head Teachers’ Association forwarded a resolution expressing regret at the decision in view of the increasing emphasis <mi visual education. The programme had been recommended by the Education Department . The hoard decided that no time bo allowed olf from school hours to attend pictures and that the action of the chairman be confirmed.
