RIFLE SHOOTING

TERRITORIAL MEETINC On Saturday and during the weekend, the Opotiki Cadets and 'Territorials held their annual rifle meeting. Each year the Defence authorities donate prize money for competitive shooting, to the different, centres. Entrance fees are charged and four (.lunations to the prize list made the list an attractive one. The day was a most successful one and also profitable to over 50 per cent, of the competitors. 'The practices bred were 5 rounds application, 5 rounds snap-shooting and 10 rounds rapid. 'The cadets, using .22 cal. rifles, fired on Saturday afternoon. 'The following are the prize-winners (possible ICO): — Cadet G. Rhodes 12 G 80 Cadet E. Kurilrangi 10/- 79 Corporal I). Alansell 7 G 77 Corporal E. Brown 5/- <5 Cadets I’arkinson. Hodgson. \ anstoiie. Reeves, Hollard and I’ea-rson each won 2/0. (’apt. Hollard kindly made a donation to the Cadet prize list. 'The 'Territorials fired on the Rifle Club’s range on .Messrs. Reid Bros.’ properly. All practices were fired from 200 yards and the following are the prize-winners (possible .100) : C'apt. C. D. Brown 15/- 89 Corporal J. 15. Rolfe 12, G .... 87 Private B. H. Parkinson 10/- .. 87 Private J. Gaskill 7/0 82 Corporal Bridge. Lieut. Ahnkay, Cpl. Alansell. Cadet Rhodes, Lieut. Seville, Tpr. Eislier. Cpl. Armstrong, Pte. Cooper. Pte- Perfect, and Sgt. Parkinson each won 5/- and I’ts. Delamere, 'Tpr. Knox and 'Tpr. Jessup each won 2/-. Air. H. Bridge and two anonymous donors kindly donated prize money, to the 'Territorial prize list. The shoot was under the supervision of S.S.M. Patterson and went olf with out a. hitch. 'The average of all tin* shooting was of a high standard.
