LAMBS AND EWES LOST -—— ' NUMBER OF 'EWES DROWNED Another case of sheep worrying was reported to the Opotiki News this morning. Sheep and lambs oil the property of Mr F- .Wingate on tlie eastern bank of ; -the ©tara river w-ere attacked yesterday ap|L this morning, six lambs being destroyed, and about an equal number of ewsß. Most of the ewes were driven into the river by a dog and drowned. The dog responsible for tlie loss was traced to a neighbouring property. The lambs were all very young and haH -their heads badly crushed by the dog and all that remained of one lalnb shown to a “News” representative was the skin and a few bones. This is the third case of shoepworrving reported in the’ l district in tlie last fe\V Meeks and appears to be evident that more stringent regulations will have to be made in the control of dogs throughout the country. A complaint was received at tlie meeting of the County Council to-day from Mr F. Wingate; concerning the worrying of sheep by a dog- belonging to a Maori caihping on a county sec, tion by the Otara River. Or Black stated that Mr Wingate had informed him that three newly-born lambs had had their heads crushed by the dog. The owner had promised to destroy the dog. The engineer, was instructed to remove the man from the county property . '
