TO THE EDITOR
CHURCH ORGAN Sir, —I read with interest an article which appeared in your paper recently concerning the very line organ installed l>y the Presbyterian Church. Although I am not a member of that church L am very desirous of having an opportunity to hear the organ and would like to suggest that a recital, at which a silver collection could be made, be arranged to allow non-members of the church an opportunity of bearing this very .line instrument. INTERESTED. [From enquiries made we learn that two such recitals as suggested by our correspondent are to be given shortly. The first will be held after the evening service on Sunday. September 4, when Air J. Puryer will be organist. Afr Arthur EJady, organist of
tlio Hercsford Street Congregational Church, will give a second recital on Monday evening, September 26.—Editor Opotikii News.] NATIONAL-SOCIALISM Sir. —-With all the hue and cry against trade unions compulsorily taking funds for fighting in the interests of the Labour Party, one wonders how it is that our National Party supporters do not raise objections to the use of dairy companies’ funds for the purposo of fighting the compensated price campaign. It is rather a remarkable thing that• the keenest advocates of this scheme are red-hot Nationalists. Personally I strongly object to the principle of unionists being compelled indirectly, to contribute to a party to whom they do not owe allegiance. And ]. think the same can-be said of taking the money of farmers from the dairy companies to fight a campaign that a great many farmers are strongly opposed to. There is not the slightest difference in unionist meetings voting sums for political purposes and a, dairycompany voting a sum to fight a campaign that should be al private matter. I don’t know what our country is coming to. Here we ore trying to preserve that great-and precious heritage left to us by our forefathers and then the very ones who condemn one section of the community for doing a certain thing turn round: and do exactly the same thing. If that'isn’t an example of “National-Socialism” I would he very interested to know what it- is. Like most ofi the farmers I do not understand the compensated price a bit, although it is said to be quite simple, according to a report published of a Whakatane dairy company meeting. I am all for freedom. INDEPENDENT COOKY.
