TRANSPORT LICENSING

1 MEETING AT OPOTIKI ‘ APPLICATIONS HEARD The meeting of the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority was held in the Courthouse on Wednesday when Mr Id. J. Plielau presided. An application by Mr N. A. Dilks, Torero, for a continuous goods service license in order to cart Public Works .Department material and equipment, was heard. A one vehicle authority was applied for. Mr F. .K. Roberts, engineer of the Public Works Department said that the truck would be working at Little Awanui. The department had a big programme ahead of it t on the Coast road and two power shovels were expected to arrive at any time. They would need all the trucks they could get then in order to keep the power shovels going. Recently work took three days to do instead of two owing to a licensed truck not being in proper repair.

However, lie would- not see the Department held up through shortage of vehicles. Mr Phelan asked for greater co-operation between the Public Works Department and the Carriers’ Association so that a list of the trucks available could lie supplied to the Department. An assurance that this would he done was given by Mr Hislop. A tomporory license limited to the Opotiki County was granted for one year. Other Applications. Messrs Drake Bi'os., Te Kalia, applied for an amendment to continuous goods-service, tlie nature of the amendment being one additional vehicle authority. Decision was reserved.
