MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED

Severe head injuries were received by Mr Bernard White., a single man, aged about 40, when lie was knocked down' by a motor-car near the Drill Hall in St. John Street at about 6.50 o’clock last evening. The driver of the car was Mr Tonto Pea win i and there was a number of passengers in the car. Mr White had left Mr Dan Riwi’s house, situated just beyond the borough boundary in Otara Road, the arrangement being that Mr Peawini would pick him up further along the road. When Mr White saw the car approaching he apparently stepped out in front to stop it but was not noticed by the driver. Mr White received a severe blow through his head striking the hard surface of the roadway and received a fractured skull and concussion and is suffering from hemorrhage of the brain. .He is still unconscious and his condition is still serious.
