Shipping. Owing to the depth, of water on the Opotiki” bar, .the m.s. Waiotahi has been delayed. Fierce Storm at Gisborne. The fiercest storm experienced in the Gisborne district for many years blew itself out during Wednesday night, and although conditions were decidedly inclement- yesterday, there was a big improvement in : the weather. The wind caused a good deal of damage and flooding occurred in many parts of the district. Hie big Waipaoa river fortunately reached its peak when the tide was low and then subsided very quickly and settlers in the lower reaches of the river escaped ‘having-their lands covered with silt once again.
