INSTITUTES

W'AIOTAHI MEETING The monthly meeting of the Waiotalu Women's institute was held in the Hall on Wednesday, July 13th., iVurs C. Wnite presiding. Tne meeting was opened with the singing of tile Institute Song, after which the business was dealt with. The programme for the afternoon was arranged by Mesdames Lees, Robinson, Burice, J. Anderson and Miss White. The Roll Call, “Uses of Lemon and Vinegar,” brought forth some interesting hints. Mrs J. Anderson read the Golden Thread item, which was on the tui. A demonstration “Hairpin Work”, was given by Mrs Robinson and enjoyed by all. Mr Clements of Wainui ably demonstrated grafting and budding of fruit trees. A musical competition was jvon by Mrs White, and a song by; Mrs Burke was much appreciated. Competitions for the afternoon were as follows :—Crochet d’ovley : Mrs Newton 1, Mrs Cunningham 2. Pair infant’s slippers from felt hat; Mrs Cunningham 1. Best bloom: Mrs W. L. Looney (lasiandra) 1, Mrs Cunningham (passion flower) 2 . Best vegetable: Mrs Burke (silver-beet) 1, Mrs Smith (pumpkin) 2.

Afternoon tea was M served by the hostesses, Mesdames Anderson, W agner and Miiss Neil sen. The singing of the National Anthem concluded the afternoon. •
