OPOTIKI GARDENING CIRCLE The monthly meeting of the Gardening Circle of the Opotiki Women's Institute was held at the home of Airs J. D. Clark on Friday. In the absence ot Airs Forbes, Airs Merry presided. '■ There was a magnificent display of flowers for this time of the year. The winning entries were Airs Merry’s and All’s . Fisher’s, and comprised camellias, veronica, double trumpet lily, delphinium, antirrhinum, and geranium. Other outstanding bowers were luculia, poinsettia, fuschia, roses, salvia, marigolds, iris, and many Spring biilb flowers. The winning autumn leaves were disolnyed by Al iss Bridge and Airs Aierry. Al.any useful ideas were, brought forth by the Roll Call “Garden. Hints”. Airs Clark read a very interesting paper on “Primroses and Polyanthus.” The next meeting will be held at Airs Fox’s home, ' the competition to be “Three Best Flowers and Buttonhole of Six Violets.” A vote of thanks to Airs Clark, brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close.

MEETING AT WOODLANDS The AA’oodlands AVomen’s Institute met on Tuesday afternoon, the occasion being the celebration of the eighth birthday of the lntistute. Uniortunately, sickness and the inclement weather prevented many members from being present, but a very happy time was spent in spite cl the adverse conditions. The meeting opened with the National Anthem and the Institute Song. Before commencing the programme. Airs AlcGregor, who occupied the chair, expressed regret at the absence of the* president. Airs Noble, and hoped that Aliss J. Noble would soon be restored to her usual health. Airs Alc-Gregor also welcomed several visitors who were present. After tlie business session, the roll call, “Animal Noises” caused considerable* anuisement. This was Jollowed by a game “Dumb Orchestra” which was arranged by Airs AlcGregor. Two comprehensive stories came next, alter which Airs Hoi la l’cl contributed an interesting travel talk, taking her recent trip to AA ellington as her subject. Airs ALartin. gave a very helpful garden talk cii gladioli and bulb growing'. The candles on the handsome birthday cake were* lit by Airs AlcGregor and extinguished by Airs Armstrong, and tlie cake was cut bv Airs Alul]ic*ru, all of whom extended best wishes to tlie Institute for continued success. All's AlcGregor thanked Airs Hodgson who made the cake and Airs Pilkington who decorated it. Ihe points winners were Airs Alulhcrn (apple turnovers). Airs Pilkington (unusual table* decoration), and Airs Ahtlhem (brain fag). Afternoon tea. was served by tlie hostesses. Airs Dodgson and Mrs Holla id.
